Sup Kids Haarlem Rules and Regulations

Sup Kids Haarlem is a training group of the Haarlemse Kano Vereniging (HKV), aimed at enabling children to practice stand-up paddleboarding as a sport. Training is provided by volunteers. Participants pay a contribution for the use of equipment and the maintenance of HKV facilities. These regulations are intended to ensure training sessions run safely and fairly. By participating in Sup Kids Haarlem, participants and their parents/guardians agree to these regulations.

  1. HKV runs entirely on volunteers. To make activities like Sup Kids Haarlem possible, participants or their parents are expected to help with HKV activities when asked. Without this collective effort, HKV and Sup Kids Haarlem cannot exist. Providing this contribution is therefore a condition for participation in Sup Kids Haarlem.
  2. All communication about Sup Kids Haarlem training takes place via a (private) WhatsApp group. You will be added to this group after a completed registration form has been approved.
  3. A maximum of 10 children can participate per training session. If there are more registrations than available spots, additional registrations will automatically be placed on a waiting list.
  4. The trainer sends a weekly announcement for the training session. Participants can register by responding to that announcement. If you have multiple children participating, please mention this in a text message in the group. If you are not participating, you do not need to respond. If a friend or friend wants to join, they must be registered by the parent/guardian.
  5. Registration is possible until 2 hours before training. If you cancel, always send a text message as well. This prevents the trainer from preparing equipment and training for a child who then does not show up.
  6. Training starts at the agreed time. As soon as the first children go on the water, the program begins. To avoid disrupting the group, children who arrive after this cannot participate in the training.
  7. HKV members with a valid Sup Kids membership have unlimited access to the training. Participants can also pay per training, a payment link for which will be provided in the WhatsApp-group. If you qualify for the HaarlemPas, membership dues can possibly be paid for by the Jeugdfonds Sport & Cultuur.
  8. When weather conditions make it impossible to conduct training responsibly, the trainer will adjust or cancel the training. This will be communicated in the WhatsApp group.
  9. Participants must handle the provided equipment carefully. Damage resulting from intentional or reckless behavior may be charged to the participant or their parents.
  10. We paddle on open water, which carries different risks than a controlled environment like a swimming pool. Participants must therefore follow (safety) instructions immediately, and participants must behave in such a way that they do not pose a danger to themselves or their surroundings. If a participant repeatedly creates dangerous situations, further participation in training may be denied.
  11. The trainer's decisions regarding safety, group division, and participation in training are binding.
  12. Toilet visits are only possible before or after training. If your child needs to use the toilet during training, it will not be possible to return to the training afterward. Also keep in mind that social safety rules stipulate that the trainer cannot accompany children to the toilet.
  13. Parents may watch the training. The trainer is responsible for the safety and execution of the training. Do not interrupt the training to, for example, offer your child food or drinks, or to provide different clothing. Encouragement and motivation are fine, but do not disrupt the training.
  14. Paddleboarding is a water sport. It is therefore possible that participants may fall in the water. Be prepared for this by bringing dry clothing and a towel.
  15. We strongly advise against telling your child not to fall in the water (however understandable it may be that you don't want to deal with changing clothes afterward). This often backfires: the child can no longer paddle freely, which means they cannot perform exercises properly and cannot fully participate in the training.
  16. Participation requires Dutch Swimming Diplomas A and B, issued in accordance with the standards of the "Nationale Raad Zwemveiligheid" (Dutch National Council for Swimming Safety). In individual cases, we may deviate from this. This is primarily intended for children who moved to the Netherlands at a later age. Participation without zwemdiploma A & B may be considered:
    1. when the child has an A certificate and wears a life vest with a buoyancy of at least 50N during training (available as a free loan from HKV);
    2. when the child has a certificate of swimming proficiency issued by an independent expert such as a swimming school.
No other exceptions will be accepted. Please refrain from pressuring the trainer to compromise safety standards.
